When she was 5 years old, Linda Blair had to learn to accept public attention, initially as a child model and then as an actress, when among 600 hopefuls, she was selected for the role of Regan as the possessed child who was on the screen in The Exorcist (1973). Linda quickly rose to world fame and won the Golden Globe, and seemed likely to receive the Academy Award for that role, but when it leaked details of how certain aspects of the character were not performed by the actress herself (the demon voice was recorded in the voice of Mercedes McCambridge, and eight seconds of a stunt dummy employed) this dream fell apart in disappointment, which probably came the first blow that could have been the start of a successful career. The next couple of years she didn't have any trouble getting lead roles in a number of film productions, such as the hugely successful TV films Born Innocent (1974) (the number one TV show of that year) as well as Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic (1975), as well as The Exorcist sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). When she was forced by peers into taking cocaine prior to the age of 18, it led to an arrest and subsequent sentencing to three years ' probation. Linda was removed from Hollywood in the wake of the well-publicized drug arrest. Her career soon became reduced to B films and TV appearances.
